Battle Report 7
Narrative
The loyal imperial forces continue to struggle to link with any notable strength, as the Tau and rebel humans continue to pursue them. The forces on both sides are scattered. Small clashes are erupting, as the forces struggle on the difficult to traverse rocky terrain of Kor. As the opposing forces probe each other for weakness, the Tau forces have cornered a force of Space Wolves, and engage them. rrative
Game Notes
For this game, we again decided to use the Open War deck, and tried to add some more randomness to the process. The idea of not having some sort of points limit does not work well in our group, given our limited gaming time. However, we wanted to introduce the idea of uneven battles to our Open War games. Our solution was to set a points range, in this case 500 - 1500 points. This would give us a reasonable amount of play room, and probably result in an uneven game. We added an extra element of randomness. We each designed a smaller army from both of our factions that could combine and still fit within the upper points limit, and determined which army we got by randomly. So, Mark had a small Tau Empire army, and a small Astra Militarum army, each more than 500 points on their own, but when combined was no more than 1500 points. Jake did the same, with his Space Wolves and Astra Militarum. We each rolled a D3 before the battle to see if we got small force 1, small force 2, or the combined force. We had hoped that the randomness would be fun, and in the extremes would result in the smaller force earning a Sudden Death card to balance out any difference. Of course, the dice disagreed, and we ended up with a bad combination. Mark rolled the combine force, so had a large army at his disposal, and the force of Space Wolves that Jake rolled was not small enough to earn a sudden death card. Oh well, it was a fun attempt, even the game was not balanced.
